Color Therapy

Color therapy is a form of alternative medicine that is often part of many alternative medicine practices. Color is a form of visible light and light is energy. The theory behind color therapy or chromotherapy, as some refer to it, is that the body and everything are earth are essentially forms of energy and much like acupuncture functions on restoring the Chi in a person, color therapy works on the same principles. Color therapy is part of vibrational healing. Vibrational medicine uses the chi energy from living things to heal. Common sources of vibrational medicine energy are crystals, gemstones, plants, water, sunlight and sound.

Every color of the rainbow has different healing properties and the practitioners who study color therapy have tools they use with their patients to help restore the balance of energy within the patient and help heal them with color. Scientific studies back the ability of colors to evoke emotions or feelings in people. Studies find that people have a strong reaction to various colors and that each person seems to respond to different lights and colors differently.

Practitioners who use color therapy in their practices determine how and where a person is out of balance by the various colors they are attracted to. The tools practitioners use in color therapy to make their determinations include crystal prisms, treatments and lasers.colored eye lenses, candles, lamps, gemstones, glass prisms, crystal wands, colored fabrics, color bath

Each color has a different wavelength and so the body reacts differently to each color. Reds usually provoke intense feelings of love or anger. Orange has a shorter frequency and therefore is slightly more calming than red. Using the color orange can heal the digestive system or promote sexual potency.

There are seven shakras and each shakra has a dominant color. Color therapy studies and how the colors relate to healing, for example, red is the dominant color of the first shakra and this shakra stimulates the body and mind and can increase circulation. The ability of the body to react to color is because the eyes absorb the light energy, as does the skin. The light energy can have healing powers when it is properly applied.
