Intense Pulse Laser

Intense pulse laser therapy is a form of laser treatment that is a newer form of technology. Computers control intense pulse lasers and the light they give off during the procedure the patient is having. Intense pulse lasers are applicable in many treatments. People seeking laser hair removal, skin resurfacing and vein removal are all procedures for which intense pulse lasers are useful.

The fact that computers control intense pulse lasers during treatment helps them be more effective on a wider variety of skin tones. Earlier versions of lasers made it difficult for people with dark skin or light hair to achieve the results they were after with laser treatments. Earlier versions of lasers were less controllable in terms of their accuracy and the amount of energy they would emit into the skin during treatment. Because intense pulse lasers are more controllable the amount of energy they put out is only what is necessary for the patient currently undergoing the treatment.

Intense pulse laser therapy requires several treatments regardless of the procedure that a patient is seeking. Most intense pulse laser treatments last about fifteen minutes to an hour and most procedures will require at least six treatments to achieve the results that patients are looking for. The one exception on the procedures needing several treatments is usually vein removal, which depending on the number of veins a patient is looking to have removed may only need one treatment.

Intense pulse laser therapy is not as painful as traditional laser therapy. Most patients report a stinging or snapping feeling during the treatment, but topical anesthesia is available for patients who are seeking to minimize their discomfort as much as possible. Recovery time is minimal with most patients returning to work immediately following their procedures. Side effects are also minimal, but can include redness and tenderness of the skin in the area of treatment.
