Medical Massage

Massage is as much a relaxation technique as it is a medical treatment in certain situations. Medical massage offers many benefits and can serve many different needs for different people depending upon the condition they are suffering from or what they are looking to relieve. Often times people think of massage as a medical necessity only when they have sore and tired muscles or have some sort of musculoskeletal issue. People also seek massage as a way to relieve stress and promote relaxation which is often not thought of as medical and although it does improve mental health it still often thought of as a luxury rather than something that has medical value to patients.

Medical massages include lymphatic massage, myofascial massage, and cranial sacral and neuromuscular massages. All types of massage have some medical benefit to the person who is receiving the treatment. Most people needing massage treatment, regardless of the type of massage they are having, need massage treatment more than once to receive the best possible outcome from the massage therapy.

Lymphatic drainage massage is a massage that encourages the drainage of the lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage massage helps unblock the lymphatic system and encourages toxins to move away from health cells and helps move germ-fighting materials to cells that are under attack from viruses.

Myofascial massage is a massage therapy that works to increase the range of motion by loosening the muscles and helps to decrease the pain patients experience from muscle damage. Myofascial massage focuses on the soft tissues of the body.

Cranial sacral massage is a massage technique that works to restore the equilibrium of the cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord in an effort to optimize the movement of the fluid. Cranial sacral massage improves mental health and work to diminish the symptoms of migraines and TMJ syndrome.
