Medical Spa

Medical spas are a common occurrence in most cities now, particularly larger metropolitan cities such as Los Angeles and New York. Medical spas are combination of tradition plastic surgery offices and spa services all under one roof. Medical spas are gaining in popularity because there are so many cosmetic procedures that are non-invasive and no longer require a doctor to perform the treatments, but do require some physician oversight.

Common treatments at medical spas include injectables, traditional plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation, facelifts, liposuction and tummy tucks, but with the addition of the spa feature there are other procedures such as Endermologie, massage, laser treatments, facials and other non-invasive procedures that go beyond the traditional spa services.

In most medical spas a plastic surgeon oversees the spa and then employs various other specialties such as estheticians and masseuses in addition to various practitioners with experience in some of the less invasive procedures including the laser treatments and many of the cellulite treatments that don't involve liposuction.

In a medical spa the physician's license covers the practice and therefore there are strict standards surrounding all procedures that take place in the medical spa office. While the masseurs and estheticians have their own licenses, it is usually the physician who is the medical director and the one most responsible for compliance with regulations.

Medical spas are great for patients who desire a spa like experience with medical oversight. The spa experience is what most patients are after when choosing a medical spa for their plastic surgery experience as well, so the combination of the two drives the popularity of the concept.

Medical spas are convenient and fill the void between the increasing number of medical like spa procedures and the actual invasive cosmetic procedures that are becoming more and more mainstream.
