Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a common cosmetic procedure that works to refine the skin and improve the overall appearance of the skin by removing the top layer of skin cells leaving behind younger looking skin that has an even color and tone. Microdermabrasion stimulates the production of collagen under the skin. By stimulating the production of collagen, the overall tone and appearance of the skin continue to improve after the completion of the microdermabrasion procedure.
Microdermabrasion is like having a mini sandblaster go to work on the delicate skin of the face and neck. Microdermabrasion procedures involve a machine that moves slowly across the skin while the very small refined pieces of sand blast away the top layer of skin cells. At the same time the machine suctions away the skin cells leaving behind new skin cells at the surface.
Microdermabrasion is a relatively painless procedure that takes about 15 minutes to an hour to complete. Most people only need one treatment of microdermabrasion to see the results they desire, however, other people may need more than one treatment to achieve their desired results. It is also important to note that microdermabrasion is not a permanent solution to the skin issues for which people typically seek microdermabrasion procedures.
Microdermabrasion is usually a treatment people seek to even out skin tone and color, reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles and reduce the appearance of skin damage from, acne, sun and smoking. Microdermabrasion also minimizes the appearance of pores by removing the oily plus from the pores during the microdermabrasion treatments.
The side effects from microdermabrasion are minimal and usually not uncomfortable or painful in nature. Skin may peel post treatment, which is not abnormal and usually a part of the microdermabrasion process. People should also be careful about the types of lotions and cleaners they use on their face immediately following a microdermabrasion treatment.
