Micropigmentation

Many people know micropigmentation by its more common name, which is permanent makeup. Permanent makeup is much like tattooing. Micropigmentation artists inject ink just below the surface of the skin in an effort to leave a lasting look of makeup that never needs reapplication. Micropigmentation works to enhance facial features such as the eyebrows, the eyes, lips and cheeks by permanent creating the appearance of eye shadow, blush, eyeliner, brow liner and lipstick or lip liner.

Micropigmentation is useful in cosmetic surgery procedure too; for example, micropigmentation can create the appearance of an areola on the breast post breast augmentation or improve the appearance of skin in a patient who suffers from hyper or hypopigmentation. Micropigmentation is a very medically relevant procedure for people who suffer from alopecia and cannot grow hair. The ability to permanently create the appearance of eyebrows can do great things for a patient's self esteem.

Micropigmentation can fade over time, therefore it is important for patients to have the micropigmentation ink start at a level darker than they normally wear so that when the ink fades they are still happy with the results. Some patients prefer to start with a lighter color and seek another application to make it darker once they are comfortable with the look.

Micropigmentation is not a very painful procedure, but there is topical anesthesia available for patients who wish to avoid any possible discomfort from the procedure. Following the procedure that possible side effects are also minimal. Most patients will want to apply a cold compress to the area of treatment to reduce any possible redness or swelling that may occur.

It is important for patients who have micropigmentation procedures to avoid the sun immediately following the procedure. It is also important that patients inform any future doctors that they have had a micropigmentation procedure to avoid any possible complications with other procedures such as cosmetic laser procedures.
